“Bad” Lantern Rings

The Last 3 rings are an odd bunch. The Yellow rings are basically exactly the same as the green rings. But the Orange and Red rings are  very different. For a start if you get a red ring you are basically a gonner. And technically no-one has an orange ring except Larfleeze (Lex doesn’t count), but i’ll stat them anyway. Anyone feel a Blackest Night event coming on? I don’t think i have the time for that…

Sinestro Corps Power Ring (Yellow Light of Fear)
Godlike Flight d12
Superhuman Durability d10 (force field)
Superhuman Senses d10
Telekinesis d10
Solid Light Mastery d10
Blast d10
Cosmic Mastery d10 (As speciality – For Information)

SFX: Multipower
SFX: Versatile
SFX: Invulnerable.
SFX: Immunity – Life Support.
SFX: Constructs.
SFX: Afflict. Add d6 and step up effect die for trapped, entangled or similar complications.
Limit: Recharge. Shutdown Power Ring and Gain 1PP. Recharge in transition scene.
Limit: Gear. Shutdown Power Ring and Gain 1PP. Recover on opportunity or roll v Doom Pool.

So Yes, It’s the GL ring without a limit on it. As with GL Rings, Better users get better stats.

Orange Lantern Power Ring (Orange Light of Avarice)
Godlike Flight d12

SFX: Multipower
SFX: Versatile
SFX: Invulnerable.
SFX: Immunity – Life Support.

SFX: Afflict. Add d6 and step up effect die for trapped, entangled or similar complications.
SFX: Nullify. Add a d6 and step up effect die to counter, nullify or resist Magic or Green and Yellow Lantern attacks or Remove their assets or complications.
Limit: Recharge. Shutdown Power Ring and Gain 1PP. Recharge in transition scene.
Limit: Gear. Shutdown Power Ring and Gain 1PP. Recover on opportunity or roll v Doom Pool.
Limit: Fuelled by Will. If a Ring bearer has taken emotional trauma which would affect their will the ring will not work at all. If a Ring bearer takes emotional stress related to self-doubt or hesitation Step down the ring powers for every 2 full steps of emotional stress. so d6/d8 stress would knock 1 steps off the powers, d10/d12 would take 2.
Limit: Greed. Change any Orange Lantern power into a complication and gain 1PP. Remove complication or activate opportunity to recover power.

The Orange Lantern

Orange Light Supremacy d12
SFX: Create Orange Light Corps. As an action, Create one Orange Corpsman at d12, 2 at d10, 3 at d8 or 5 at d6.
SFX: Recharge. Recharge and discharged orange Lantern ring.
Limit: Greed. Change any Orange Lantern power into a complication and gain 1PP. Remove complication or activate opportunity to recover power.
Limit: Gear. Shutdown Lantern and Gain 1PP. Recover on opportunity or roll v Doom Pool.

Red Lantern Power Ring
Godlike Flight d12
Superhuman Durability d10 (force field)
Superhuman Senses d10
Telekinesis d10
Fire Blast d10
Cosmic Mastery d10 (As speciality – For Information)
SFX: Multipower
SFX: Versatile
SFX: Invulnerable.
SFX: Heartless – Immunity – Life Support.
SFX: Burning Blood. as Regeneration.
SFX: Spew Blood. On a successful reaction against a close combat attack, inflict Burning Complication with your effect die at no PP cost or spend a PP to step it up by +1.
Limit: Recharge. Shutdown Power Ring and Gain 1PP. Recharge in transition scene.
Limit: Fuelled by Rage. If a Ring bearer has taken emotional trauma which would affect their Rage the ring will not work at all. If a Ring bearer takes emotional stress related to a lack of rage (calm, peace, sleep) Step down the ring powers for every 2 full steps of emotional stress. so d6/d8 stress would knock 1 steps off the powers, d10/d12 would take 2.
Limit: Rage. Change any Red Lantern power into a complication and gain 1PP. Remove complication or activate opportunity to recover power.

Note- The Red Lantern ring is not removeable, and as such has no gear limit. This is because it becomes the Bearer’s heart. Removing the Ring should kill the bearer…Except Guy!

  1. Given the recent events in GL comics (and prior) I’ve often wondered if it’d be worth someone’s time to hack the Yellow Rings to remove the Sinestro Corps allegence (how hackable are Lantern Rings anyway?)

    1. I though it was a typo, but DCA vol 2 says yes, fuelled by will.
      AFAIK they are still called the sinestro corps? But basically the yellow rings are the green rings in all but name

    1. Sorry, but to me black and white rings only appeared in an event (blackest night) and are not seen outside that. If i ever had time to do that event (tempting) i would stat them, but until then, doesnt seem worth it.

    If a red ring is removed from a red lantern, that lantern will die unless wearing another ring to keep them alive, and if there’s a blue lantern (or similarly powerful healer) ready to heal them both physically and spiritually.

  7. Just a thought – wouldn’t the Red ring be fueled by Emotional Stress, rather than hindered by it? I think that would make for an interesting play mechanic – the wearer has to have emotional stress to use his powers – the higher the stress, the stronger they become, but once they begin sustaining trauma, they start having problems.
