GMLess D&D Session 3

So having taking a week off we picked up where we left off (see session 2) having recovered the Armor of Heroism.

When we returned to the rebels we thought they would be super impressed, but they weren’t (bad roll) and they gave us another filler mission (card flip), “Acquire Love” (oracle roll). We decided our rebel contact wanted us to rescue his would-be girlfriend from the other side of the city. She was a mystic (roll). We decided she was held by a Merchant, maybe a slaver and at this point discovered that slavery was legal in the kingdom. No wonder the people are revolting, what kind of dump country where we in!?

Yes there’s a river, on top of a mesa…It’s fantasy right.

So we had to cross from Northgate (mostly rebel held) to the Merchants Gate area. Luckily there were no guards at the river or guards in the south, we figured they were all guarding the bridges.

We made our way onto the roofs of the merchant’s home, taking out 2 guards with stealthed attacks. We made our way into the top floor and fought off another guard. We didn’t find the merchant but did find his treasure stash; gold, gems, a scroll and a potion. We fought a clockwork soldier on the ground floor that proved difficult and then we got attacked by another guard.

We should have rested at this point but didn’t and carried on into the basement where we found a bunch of cages and 2 orc guards. We killed their pet worg but due to the narrow gaps between the cages we had to go 1on1 with the guards. Lyv got 1 guard (veterans) down to 1 hp but then got taken out. Igne fluffed some rolls and also went down. We were captured.

When we came to we were in the cells with no gear and the merchant, a Gray Elf Mage called Dusan Sinaran the 3rd was gloating and taunting us. We rested and waited for the next evening when Lyv simply fey stepped out of the cell. Unfortunately she failed to pickpocket the keys (the guard had them not the merchant) and he made a wisdom save so wasn’t frightened from the Winter fey step. The next round Lyv did get the keys and threw them to Igne, but missed. Lyv took some serious damage from the Orc guard having no armor now. Igne escaped and managed to steal the Orc’s short sword which Lyv had failed to to. Luckily this was going on in front of the door to where the 2nd Orc was and he couldn’t open it. Despite many terrible rolls we eventually disarmed him and getting him down to 1hp he surrendered and convinced the other Orc to do the same.

We put the Orcs in our cells, freed the slaves, including the Mystic (a Level 4 half-elf Warlock) and made our way up to the Merchant. We bound and gagged him (then spent 5 minutes checking if any of his spells didn’t have V and S components, which they didn’t). We threatened him but left him alive. And then set the house on fire…forgetting the Orcs were in the basement. Oops!

We returned to the Rebels who will hopefully be more impressed but the Mystic was not interested in the Rebel contact, but at least she agreed to fight. After all this we decided to level up. Ding!

Another fun session. Way more combat than we expected but being captured made for a fun twist. Next week we hope to take it to the king. Viva la Revolution!

We made so many character errors this game. I forgot my piercer feat i got at level 4 and Brian forgot his blood hunter rites. Next time we’ll do better!
